Volunteer Personal Counselling Training

Please note, that it will be necessary to complete some work outside of the regular training sessions and attendees must attend a minimum of 20 hours training.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Applicants must hold a PACFA recognised Diploma or Degree in Counselling, Social Work or Psychology; or be in the final year of same.
- Applicants must be able to join a PACFA recognised counselling Organisation e.g. CAPA or ACA
- Applicants must be available for five (5) volunteer sessions per week at Lifeline – this is usually one day a week, but may be two half days if you choose. This is an unpaid position.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants must complete the F2F Training Application Form and submit it along with a DVD of a counselling session of 40 to 60 minutes duration.
This may be role play or real (with client’s written consent). The client should not be shown in the DVD as the focus must be on the counsellor.

The DVD is to be accompanied by a written critique of the session – we are not after a perfect counselling session but we do require an overall critique of the skills used and include any elements that could have been conducted differently or better. The critique should focus on the process of counselling used, rather than the story line.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL RECEIVE
- 24 hours training by qualified counsellor/s and supervisor
- Supervision; initially one hour supervision for one hour counselling, moving to one hour personal supervision and two hours group supervision per month. The Supervisor is a Clinical Counsellor Supervisor with CAPA NSW
- Experience working and learning within a team of professional counsellors
- Practical experience in working with a wide range of clients and their issues, including suicide prevention, relationships, grief and loss, anger, substance abuse, depression, violence
