E-Waste E-Cycling

Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter and the Mai-Wel Group have joined forces for the benefit of the environment and the Maitland community.

In mid-May, the Maitland Lifeline Shop started selling revamped computers and they have been walking out the doors.

The computers, once destined for dump sites as “e-waste”, have been carefully repaired and reconditioned by The Mai-Wel Group’s newest business, Mai-Wel E-Cycling Services.

The computers, which have had their hard drives wiped to ensure privacy, are internet-ready and come with basic operating and anti-virus software as well as a 6 month full replacement (like for like) guarantee.
Priced at only $189 each, it is hoped that the computers will help those who have not previously been able to afford a computer, particularly job seekers.

Lifeline Shop Manager Deborah Mason has been surprised and delighted by the popularity of the computers.
“We are so proud to be in partnership with The Mai-Wel Group in a venture that is great for our community and the environment. Our customers are used to seeing furniture and clothing in our shop along with bargains from bygone eras, so we were curious to see if computers would sell well in the same setting.” said Ms Mason.
“The computers have been a big hit, particularly with retirees who are making their first tentative steps into the IT world.”

Proceeds from the sale of every revamped computer are shared by Lifeline Newcastle & Hunter and The Mai-Wel Group to assist with their vital work in the community.
