Thank you for considering engaging Lifeline Hunter Central Coast’s Personal Counselling team for your workplace.

Drawing on over forty years of experience, Lifeline Hunter Central Coast has developed a strong reputation for the delivery of high quality counselling and training programs.

We believe that communication and counselling skills are beneficial in a range of settings and aim to enhance the wellbeing of the community and organisations through training specifically designed to improve all levels of interaction.

Our Employee Assistance Program assists employees to further develop their ability to work harmoniously and effectively and contributes to the personal wellbeing of employees whilst increasing productivity within the workplace.

Personal Counselling

The Face to Face Counselling Service is an extension of Lifeline’s 24hr Crisis Telephone Counselling Service, offering one to one professional help for a wide range of personal problems.

All counsellors are accredited professionals who receive regular in-service training and on-going professional supervision to ensure that we continue to offer the highest quality service.

Conflict Resolution Mediation Services

Effectively managed work conflict has many positive results. When people can disagree with each other and lobby for different ideas, your organization is healthier. Disagreement can often result in a more thorough study of options and better decisions and direction. Knowing how to raise issues and participate in meaningful work discussions is key to your success in work and life.

Leaders in the workplace are responsible for making it a place that allows people to thrive. If ‘turf wars’, disagreements and differences of opinion grow into interpersonal conflict, leaders must intervene immediately. To do nothing is not an option if you value a positive culture in your organization. In situations of conflict, mediation skill and interventions are crucial.

Conflict avoidance is most frequently the topic when conflict in organizations is discussed. Conflict resolution is the second most frequent topic. This is unfortunate because meaningful work conflict is a cornerstone in healthy, successful organizations. Conflict is necessary for effective problem solving and for effective interpersonal relationships.

What to avoid in Conflict Resolution:

Don’t avoid the conflict, hoping it will go away – it won’t. An unresolved conflict or interpersonal disagreement festers just under the surface in the workplace. It rises to the surface whenever able to and usually at the worst time.

Don’t meet separately with persons in conflict – the sole goal of each employee is to convince you of the merits of their case. If you hear each individual’s story you risk polarizing their positions.

Don’t assume the only people affected by the conflict are the participants – everyone who has interacted with the participants is affected by the stress. The environment is like “walking on eggshells” which naturally contributes to a hostile work environment for other employees. This could ultimately lead to employees taking sides and dividing your organization.
